Grown@Mines x Mines Greenhouse & Gardens

This campaign ended on December 01, 2021, but you can still make a gift to Colorado School of Mines by clicking here!

What started as a senior design project, the Mines Greenhouse and Gardens have now expanded into Grown@Mines, a University Honors and Scholar Program!

Our outdoor gardens midway through summer 2021.

Grown@Mines’ mission is to build a more sustainable food culture within the Mines and Golden community. Our program strives to increase education and awareness behind sustainable, equitable food systems by encouraging knowledge sharing, hands on experiences, and increasing community connectivity.

Grown@Mines collaborated with Fighting Hunger at Mines to host our first cooking class on October 14th!

With your support, we will hook up electricity to our hydroponic and aeroponic systems inside of the greenhouse enabling operations during the winter season. The greenhouse will continue to provide the Mines community with a serene space to practice mindfulness whilst also producing fresh organic produce for donation to Blaster’s Basket. Increased production capacity will enable us to pass on the valuable knowledge and partnerships the program has thus far accumulated, preparing the next generation of Grown@Mines leaders to develop and grow the program.

In addition to electrifying our greenhouse, your contributions to our campaign will enable us to enroll three Mines students in the Colorado State University (CSU) master gardener program. These students will learn invaluable knowledge and skills about plant cultivation to be passed on to future Orediggers.

As displayed in the following budget breakdown for the academic year, supplemental financial needs include additional funding for electrical grounding to power our greenhouse hydroponic systems, lot fencing to protect our outdoor gardens from pests, and more!

Thank you all for your time and consideration, and make sure to reach out and swing by our greenhouse and gardens anytime you're around Golden!
