Mines Without Borders Fall 2022

Who Are We
As a chapter of Engineers Without Borders, Mines Without Borders (MWB) develops student leaders to build a better world through sustainable engineering projects. Our work consists of people-centered engineering solutions to provide access to essential needs in international rural communities. Our team of over 50 students work on three projects devoted to realizing sustainable development goals.
Our Projects
Socavón Water Distribution Project
The Water Team has recently adopted a sustainable water distribution project to bring clean water for the first time to Socavón, Nicaragua. In partnership with Engineers Without Borders, Global Brigades and the members of the community, the Water Team plans to implement a spring box, storage tanks, a piped distribution system, chlorination treatment, and metered taps at each household. We are planning on completing our assessment trip to Socavón in the new year!

Nicaraguan Solar Energy Project
In partnership with CoCoDa, the Solar Team recently started a project in rural Nicaragua and is planning on implementing residential solar lightingfor houses without electricity. The Solar Team is planning on implementing phase one, which consists of a village of 15 homes, over winter break!

Haitian Pump Project
The Haitian Pump Team is working on building a reliable, low cost, solar-powered water pump. The pump will serve a village in Haiti and provide reliable clean water to residents.
